The documentaries were created by a group of North Minneapolis students who participated in the PYC Arts & Technology High School and Kwanza Freedom School 2010 summer programs.
“Blue Migration” is a documentary of the BP oil spill’s impact on the North Minneapolis local Blue Heron population. The film explores the potential danger the water birds may encounter as they migrate to their winter nesting location in the area of the “BP” oil spill which threatens the Gulf of Mexico.
“Our Community, Our Home,” also created by the North Minneapolis students, is a positive view of North Minneapolis. The film focuses on what makes their community feel like a home. The student filmmakers also examined the positive elements, people, organizations that make up the community through insightful interviews with several organizations that are dedicated to assisting the residents of North Minneapolis.
