Organization Summary

The Jordan Area Community Council (JACC) is a neighborhood organization located in North Minneapolis. One of the city’s first community-based organizations, JACC began its work in 1964 as members joined together to prevent closure of the public library’s North Minneapolis branch. That struggle firmly established JACC as a grassroots organization, based in the belief that residents could solve their problems through collective action. JACC is a resident-led organization created to organize people, disseminate community information and attract capital for the collective and independent empowerment of Jordan residents. We work to promote a greater sense of individual obligation to the community in which members reside as well as to achieve more equitable educational, health, safety and livability outcomes for our residents.

 

Job Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to assist JACC with organizing people and increasing relationships and trust between residents. The outreach coordinator will primarily be responsible for conducting neighborhood outreach activities—first focusing on doorknocking and other one-on-one activities and then through the development of block clubs and other small resident groups. The outreach coordinator must be able to develop strategies for reaching targeted field goals and be able to build strong resident support for JACC. The outreach coordinator must be skilled in coaching others to citizen leadership.

Required Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree plus two to three years of outreach/organizing experience

·       Enthusiasm for working with people; excellent communication skills

·       Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and achieve goals

·       Experience organizing small community-based events

·       Reliable transportation (not necessarily a motor vehicle)

·       Significant experience with culturally and racially diverse groups

·       Experience with database management

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Literate with new social media technology

·       Experience with grantwriting

Job Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative, communication and fundraising support to JACC for its strategic and organizational initiatives. Of primary importance is expanding JACC’s participation base with more renter, homeowner, and business owner members. The administrative coordinator must maintain regular office hours at the JACC House and be able to provide timely telephone and email response to inquiries from residents and community groups. The administrative coordinator will be responsible for providing some administrative support to the board and committees but will be primarily expected to work with limited supervision to develop and implement a work plan to achieve JACC’s organizational mission.

Required Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree plus three to four years of related experience

·       Experience with grantwriting

·       Ability to develop and explain organizational policies and procedures useful for current and future board, committee and staff members   

·       Careful attention to detail combined with excellent organizational skills

·       Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and achieve goals

·       Significant experience with culturally and racially diverse groups
