Outreach Coordinator

(permanent, part time, starting at $13-$18 per hour)

Jordan Area Community Council (JACC) is a resident-led organization created to organize people, disseminate community information and attract capital for the collective and independent empowerment of Jordan residents. We work to promote a greater sense of individual obligation to the community in which members reside as well as to achieve more equitable educational, health, safety and livability outcomes for our residents.(www.jordanmpls.org).

Primary Duties:

Jordan Area Community Council (JACC) is seeking an Outreach Coordinator. The primary purpose of this position is to assist JACC with organizing people and increasing relationships and trust between residents by identifying issues and opportunities facing the community. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for conducting neighborhood outreach activities, developing programs and services that meet community needs – focusing on door knocking and other one-on-one activities and then through the development of block clubs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop of block clubs and other small resident groups to address issues surrounding housing, crime and safety, youth, etc.

  • Develop strategies for reaching targeted field goal and be able to build strong resident support for JACC

  • Recruit volunteers and lead activities to help ensure residents have an opportunity to shape their neighborhoods direction

  • Work closely with the Board and staff to expand JACC’s volunteer base thru assisting with developing housing, crime and safety and block club and youth initiative committees

  • Attend and coordinate community events and/or meetings to promote JACC programs

  • Compile, record and evaluate outreach statistics, data and assist with evaluation of program results

  • Prepare related reports for Board and various committees as needed

Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree with 3-5 years of outreach, organizing, program development, group facilitation experience preferred. Associates Degree with 5 years of experience or the equivalent required. Non-profit experienced is desired.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient with a high level of professionalism

  • Experience in planning, organizing and implementing community events

  • Experience in facilitating groups and building leadership capacity. Of primary importance is expanding JACC’s participation base with more renter, homeowner, and business owner members

  • Ability to understand and effectively use technology and data management systems i.e. Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook and willingness to learn and grow through a professional development plan process and training, including technology and data management systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to relate effectively with diverse individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds

  • Strong motivational skills and outstanding relational skills to build trusted relationships in a diverse community

  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to multi-task on simultaneous projects while meeting deadlines in a rapidly changing environment

  • Knowledge of North Minneapolis

  • Strong problem solving skills and follow up skills

  • Work well in a team and be self-directed

  • High energy and enthusiasm with a positive attitude

  • Ability to represent JACC in a professional, respectful manner

  • Experience managing office equipment

  • Ability to deal with confidential information

  • Flexible schedule – evenings and some weekends are required
