Polly Peterson

Hello.  My name is Polly Peterson and I have lived in the Jordan Neighborhood since 1989.  I became involved with the Jordan Area Community Council within a few years of moving here beginning as a member of the JACC Housing Committee, where we administered the Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP).  Programs included acquiring and rehabilitating distressed properties, home improvement loans and down payment assistance programs. I have been involved in housing in Jordan almost continuously since I moved here and have been a block club leader in the past. I subsequently joined the Board of Directors and was a member during the 90s, took some time off and have again been on the board of directors during the most recent decade. When the school board decided to build Jordan Park School, the JACC Housing committee worked hard to save several houses that were moved from the school property and relocated to nearby vacant lots.

I joined JACC because I believe that the neighborhood is better if we have active engagement from its residents and in order to get to know my neighbors. I am proud of the work JACC has done to reduce crime in our neighborhood. I encourage any of my neighbors to become involved with JACC to help us make Jordan the best neighborhood in Minneapolis.  The more people we have involved, the more we can do to uplift Jordan and the more respect we have from city officials. Please join us!

I retired from Human Resources at the University of Minnesota in 2019 and liked to spend my time BC (before Covid) taking in as much live theater and movies as I could squeeze into my life.  Fortunately, I also am an avid reader and have read tons of books during the stay at home period.  Thank goodness for inexpensive ebooks and the digital resources of the Hennepin County Library!

Where do I go in North Minneapolis? I really like our North Regional Library and my brother and I like to eat at Emily’s at 44th and Penn.  It is a true neighborhood breakfast and lunch place where (like Cheers) everybody knows your name. We hope that it will again serve that function once it recovers from damage during the recent troubles.
